Masters of Sciences in Computer Science (MSCS)


The Masters of Sciences in Computer Science (MSCS) Degree program is spread over two academic years(minumum). The minimum duration for completion of Master of Science in Computer Science degree is two (02) years. As per HEC guidelines, the Department of Computer Science, allows a maximum period of four (04) years to complete Master of Science in Computer Science degree requirements. Each academic year consists of two regular teaching semesters i.e. Fall and Spring semesters.

Spring Semester:

  • February to June

Fall Semester:

  • August to January

Each semester comprises of sixteen weeks of teaching. The medium of instruction at KICSIT is English.

Working Days:

  • Monday to Friday

Timings:

  • 1600 Hours – 2000 Hours

These timings may change as per requirement of the Institute. Each semester is followed by a few weeks inter-semester break for the preparation of semester results and for students to recreate and prepare for next semester.

KICSIT is a Campus of Institute of Space Technology (IST). All admissions to KICSIT are subject to the approval of IST, these are finalized by issuance of Registration Numbers from University.


Eligibility Criteria for Masters of Sciences in Computer Science (MSCS)


A candidate seeking admission in MSCS Program should fulfill the following requirements:

A student selected for admission having deficiency in the above stated courses may be required to study a maximum of FOUR courses, which must be passed in the first two semesters. Deficiency courses shall be determined by the Graduate Coordinator of Department of Computer Science (KICSIT), before admitting the student. The deficiency credit hours will not be counted towards the minimum credit hours requirement for the award of Master of Science in Computer Science.


Program


To become eligible for award of Master of Science in Computer Science degree, a student must satisfy the following requirements:

  1. A candidate needs to complete 24 credit hours of course work along with a minimum of 6 credit hours for research work/ thesis.
  2. Must have earned Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 on the completion of his MSCS degree requirements.




Merit Determination Criteria-MS


Admission shall be granted absolutely on merit which will be determined on the basis of marks obtained in the following examinations, and according to the weightage mentioned against the respective examination:


For MSc (02 years) Students:
  1. SSC/equivalent: 10%
  2. FSc/equivalent: 10%
  3. BSc/equivalent (02 years):20%
  4. MSc/equivalent (02 years):20%
  5. GAT General/HAT General/ GRE International (General):40%
  6. *These applicants can apply for non-engineering programs only

For BSc/BS/BE (04 years) Students:
  1. SSC/equivalent: 10%
  2. FSc/equivalent: 10%
  3. BSc/BS/BE/equivalent (04 years):40%
  4. GAT General/HAT General/ GRE International (General):40%

Notes:

  1. Only those MS & PhD candidates who have passed the BS/MS/M.Phil./ equivalent examination shall be eligible for admission to the next higher class. The result of pre-requisite degree/certificate for admission in any discipline should be officially notified by the respective body/authority of the university till the date of closing of admission.
  2. It is mandatory for MS/phD applicats to pass the GAT/GRE/HAT in the relevant field of study with required marks/score to apply for admission in IST. However, provisional admission without GAT/GRE/HATmay be granted only for the first semester subject of avaliability of seats.
  3. Applicants with a foreign qualification are required to obtain the equivalent certificate from HEC before applying for admission in MS/PhD programs offered by IST.
  4. It is mandatory for Government employees to submit NOC from their organization on registration day.
  5. If a sufficient number of students are available only then Program/Specialization will be started
